This story is from the lady: the portrait was taken at Tracy Aviary for the most recent American Cancer Society Survivor Engagement event…

‘My dad will be sixty-seven soon. He’s a Vietnam veteran from Ohio. Now that he’s retired, he likes to ride Harley-Davidsons. In 2014, he was out once on his Harley and suddenly got hit with some real intense pain. It turned out to be a kidney stone. When the doctors were getting ready to operate, they discovered that he had full-blown bladder cancer. If he hadn’t had the kidney stone, they would not have known he’d had bladder cancer and they said it was caused by something he was exposed to in Vietnam. He went in for emergency surgery and got it taken care of but we say it’s a miracle that he had the kidney stone. He has to go in for checkups every so often. My dad has taught me so much…he adopted me when I was eight. I hope that, for the rest of his life, that I get to be with him and enjoy his company. He’s taught me patience. He raised me, my brother, and sister on his own as a single dad and I couldn’t be more grateful to have him as a part of my life.’
