‘I just moved to Salt Lake City this past Friday and, more than that, I’ve just newly come out to close family and friends. What happened in Orlando is the first traumatic event in the LGBT community that has resonated with me. My parents helped me move here and we just had a long but good conversation about how they, as parents, are afraid for me. I told them that I cannot and will not let fear dictate my life. As soon as I let fear dictate my life, the bad guys win…and I don’t want to live my life that way. This whole terrible event has, in fact, reinforced the way I hope to live my life and the way I think everyone should be able to live their lives without fear.’
