‘I’m originally from Georgia and I came to Salt Lake City to go to the University of Utah. I came to the Pride Festival because I don’t see why we shouldn’t open our arms to the whole community. I’m straight and I don’t see why anyone would want to prevent someone else from being happy. If being with someone of the same gender makes you happy, that’s fantastic. There’s no way I’m going to oppose that. The whole issue of gay vs. straight is really like an elephant in the room. The office where I work is very LDS and when I told my co-workers I was going to the Pride Festival, some of them immediately asked me, ‘Are you gay?’ That shouldn’t be the instantaneous assumption. We live in a world now where we shouldn’t be thinking that way. I believe we can all be better than that.”
