‘Back in Hawaii, in 2007, when I was in middle school, I wanted to play football. One day, I got in trouble and got sent home early. As I was walking home, I saw these guys hopping on one arm and I was blown away by their dancing movements. In that moment, my day went from sucky to being awed and that’s how I discovered dance. I think I really found myself in that perfect moment. It’s almost fortunate that I got in trouble that day. I really wanted to play football like any other typical Polynesian would, but I’ve loved dance ever since then. I guess you could say I didn’t pick dance. Dance picked me.’
