‘When my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, it was hardest for me to watch my father suffer. My dad is pretty quiet and you really have to dig deep to really get him into a conversation and to get him to open up. To see him so open and raw during his father’s illness really broke my heart. I’m a very emotional person and I feel what other people feel. I think it’s hard when you know you can’t do anything to ease the pain. My grandfather’s ordeal made my dad realize how much he loved his father and how much he wished he could have had more time with him and how he wished he could tell him everything he wanted to say. Seeing that made me have an even better and more powerful relationship with my father. It’s so important to stay close to the ones you love for as long as possible before it’s too late.’55
