‘My dad died this past year and he wasn’t really old. I found out that we who are left behind really should live our lives in honor of the memory of someone we really love. It’s made me more thoughtful as I go through just about everything. My dad was a sarcastic, smart, and funny man. He had liver cancer and from diagnosis to death was about three weeks so it was sudden. He didn’t really teach me anything I didn’t already know but I made sure he knew that I loved him…and I still do. I think that people who love each other know it truly in their hearts and that saying it out loud is just a reinforcement of that but, at the same time, when you tell it to someone, maybe when they’re having a bad day, it’s more reassuring. I was lucky. I love my dad and I got to tell him everything so there was really nothing left unsaid.’mar8
